Mark’s Connection to Health

A big part of me wants everyone to recognize the long terms effects of smoking. Recently my father was diagnosed with Buerger’s Disease, a disease which causes acute inflammation and clotting of arteries and veins. The only way to stop this from occurring is to immediately stop smoking. This is a very serious condition and if not taken care of properly, the effects can mimic frost bite. My father also recently had triple bypass surgery to help the clotting in his veins. This was very scary for my whole family as my father is a young healthy guy who has always been active. So far, this has worked and I am glad to say he has quit smoking. As a struggling smoker myself, I have witnessed first hand the horrible effects that smoking can cause and I’m not here to preach and be a hypocrite but rather to help people to recognize that this disease affects people everyday. On a more personal note, I have decided to quit smoking, and will keep going everyday to try to not have a cigarette because this has touched so close to my family. From a music standpoint, I have often been praised for having such a smooth voice. I realize that if I don’t quit smoking, my greatest asset as a vocalist will be in jeopardy somewhere down the road. This is a risk that I am not willing to take.
